Thanks to the recent storm we are truly walking in a winter wonderland here in Globe-Miami, Arizona. The Pinals, the Apache Peaks, the Sierra Ancha Mountain Range and Top of the World were all blanketed in snow. The view from town is what I imagine it would be like to be in a snow globe, looking out. In a way, I guess we are our own little “snow Globe.” Do not be afraid to step outside and away from the responsibilities this weekend. Enjoy the clean, crisp air. You deserve it. It is waiting for you.
Shamrock Bar
The Shamrock Bar is located in Claypool, Arizona. This rough and tumble bar has been around for some time as a watering hole for the miners who got off shift early morning or late at night. In 1998 Nancy Madrid bought the bar and turned it into a dance hall. In these “glory days” the dance floor would be packed with two steppers from all over the state. The Shamrock has food and an outside patio as well as a screened in smokers lounge. The dance hall is still opened on special occasions. Friday and Saturday nights you can always find a welcoming crowd for karaoke. If big crowds are not your thing this bar provides 3 pool tables in separate rooms as well as darts and an individual jute box. There is always “rum” for one more.
Stephen & Zenada’s Christmas Spectacular
For the first time ever Stephen and Zenada Palmer are trying their hand at a Christmas special- Stephen and Zenada’s Christmas Spectacular. With help from Justin Justice of Low Expectations, Aaron Zufelt of Howling Booty and the participation of the crowd, this should prove to be a night to remember. Who knows who may show up to join us on stage? That is the joy of an “open mic.” The theme for the night will be Christmas Carols and Ugly Sweaters. Find that ugly old sweater and join in the fun. The event is Saturday, December 19th from 8pm- Midnight at Farley’s Pub on Broad Street in Downtown Globe.
Jammerz Bar
Jammerz Bar will be hosting Jammerz Ugly Sweater Christmas Party on Thursday, December 17th at 7pm. Top prize for the best ugly sweater is $100. Not bad for a night out on the town in a dorky sweater covered in ribbons and jingle bells. With its two big projection screen this bar is also a great place to catch the fight or the big game. Almost every weekend Jammerz Bar has live bands, this week it is the Chris Kane Trio. They play on Saturday night from 9pm until 1am. The CJ Kane Trio, as they are also known, play a lot of Jimi Hendrix covers as well as originals and other blues and jazz. It is truly a blessing to watch Chris as he shreds his guitar with such passion.
Drift Inn Saloon
The main staple of the Globe nightlife is the Drift Inn Saloon. Featuring DJ’s or live bands every weekend this is the place to be on a Friday or Saturday night. Most of the locals either start or end their night at the Drift Inn.
With its hometown famous ‘bloody marys,’ the Drift also provides an excellent spot to start the recovery process the day after. This spot is as close to a club as you will find in Globe-Miami. The stage and the dance floor are in the back while the bar and two pool tables make up the front of the room. The bar itself is not very big as that is part of the charm. The front patio is usually adorn with a few patrons huddled together, taking in some fresh air.
The best kept secret about this place is their food. The burgers and fries are classic. The wings come in a few different flavors that are all as delicious as they are fun to eat. This bar makes for a perfect spot to spend the afternoon watching football or taking a casual date. This week the Arizona Cardinals face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday Night Football. Game starts at 6:30pm.
