I love how the spring brings everything back to life. I do not think I have ever seen the community of Globe-Miami so busy. We have art festivals, off road jamborees, town celebrations, fishing competitions and more music than you can shake a stick at. In all of this life fulfilling business we are reminded of a very special person by a special holiday, we call it Mothers Day. You know, the woman who fed you, clothed you and listens to your problems. Whether she is your biological Mother or not, you know who I am talking about.
Painting Uncorked
If you are looking for something different to do with Mom this year I have a suggestion. Stacy’s Art & Soul is located on Broad Street in Downtown Globe, Arizona. Owned and run by Stacy Waddell , Art & Soul carries a variety of art supplies. On select days Stacy hosts an art class that she calls “Painting Uncorked.” This is an adult friendly event where you pay $30 for the class, the canvas, paints and brushes. The group then picks a picture that they wish to paint and Stacy instructs the class on how to get it done. Whine is not part of the price you pay but it does flow freely at the event, you are welcome to bring your own or share with Stacy. The next classes are Tuesday the 3rd and Wednesday the 11th, with more to come. Contact Stacy’s Art & Soul to set an appointment.
Mothers Deserve More Than Just One Day
Don’t wait until Sunday to make mom feel special. Take her out this week to one of the best lunch spots in town, the Copper Bistro. The Copper Bistro is located just off Highway 60 on the west side of Globe, Arizona. This restaurant specializes in serving lunch and dinner to the hard working miners in the area. They are open from 11am to 8pm Monday through Friday and closed on the weekends. The menu and atmosphere are that of a high end bar and grill. The burgers are delicious, the salads are full of veggies and the food is served hot. So take time out of your busy schedule this week and invite your Mother for a special lunch or dinner with her favorite child.
A Local GEM
The United Jewelry Company has been a part of Miami and now Globe since the early 1900’s. Make a classic purchase this Mother’s Day and by your Mom something special that will make her feel beautiful. Sure it is nice to buy her flowers or a card but fine jewelry is something she can appreciate for years to come. United Jewelry is open Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 5:30pm and Saturdays from 9:30 to 4pm. In honor of Mothers Day they will have 20% off watches and diamonds as well as several display cases designed to help you find that perfect charm for your Mother, with some specials set as high as 50% off.
The United Jewelry Company has more to offer than one would initially expect. It is a hard sale to get a man to go shopping for jewelry; but once you say guns and guitars, you can expect an entirely different reaction. They have a varied selection of rifles, pistols and knives as well as electric and acoustic guitars and amplifiers. If you watch Dad shop you may also discover a new idea for a gift to get him for Father’s Day, which is just next month.
Mom’s Night Out
This segment of the article is for the Mom’s. Thank you for all that you do. Raising children is more than just keeping them alive. You are watering the seeds of our future; sharing culture and wisdom from one generation to the next. Please give yourself permission to leave the kids at home and take a night out on the town. Farley’s Pub offers a relaxed atmosphere with adult conversation, craft beer and good whine. There is no need to act like you are 21 again but you can be a well rounded adult who has an enjoyable night. Farley’s Pub is open Wednesday through Saturday from 4pm until Midnight.
On Saturday, May 7th Stephen Palmer will be hosting an Open Mic Night for local art and music. The event begins at 8pm and last until about Midnight. This Open Mic Night will be in praise of the hard work and dedication of all Mother’s across the world, especially my own. Zenada and I will be performing our set at 8pm and again at 10:30pm. Any musicians, poets or artists wishing to share with the crowd are welcome. So bring your mom and embarrass her with a poem you wrote for her last night, or in fifth grade. The point of this event is to share culture as a community, to laugh and to have a good, clean night with friends; old and new.
Stephen Palmer is an Arizona native, born and raised. With his ear to the ground and head in the clouds Stephen brings a passion to life that is as complex as it is full of joy. Reader beware the adventures of an untamed mind.
