Gila Community College Approved for New Nursing Program

Program to launch in Fall 2025 at Gila Pueblo and Payson campuses, offering opportunities for aspiring nurses in Gila County.

The Arizona State Board of Nursing has officially approved Gila Community College’s Provisional Application to offer an Associate Degree in Nursing with a Practical Nursing Option. The program will be available starting Fall 2025 at both the Gila Pueblo and Payson campuses.

This groundbreaking news marks a significant milestone for Gila Community College as it expands its academic offerings to meet the healthcare needs of Gila County residents. The college is now accepting students through its Student Information System, Campus Café, and anticipates beginning student registration the week of June 23, with a summer session scheduled for July. Interested students can apply by visiting the college’s new website at https://gilacc.org, where they will find the “Apply Now” button for easy access to application details.

“We are thrilled to announce the launch of our Associate Degree in Nursing program, which will play a pivotal role in expanding opportunities for future nurses in Gila County,” said Dr. Phil McBride, Vice President of Academics at Gila Community College. “Our community is in need of skilled healthcare professionals, and this program will help meet those needs by offering a comprehensive education that prepares students for success in the nursing field.”

The new program will be supported by a strong team, including Alayna Barr, who will serve as the Nursing Program Administrator at the Payson Campus, and Megan Martinez, who will oversee the program at the Gila Pueblo Campus. Both individuals will begin their full-time roles on July 1, 2025.

In addition to the Nursing Program, faculty are transitioning to prepare for upcoming summer and fall courses, and there are plans to expand additional programs based on the community’s evolving needs.
