The Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture (Taliesin) announced just before Christmas that the school had succeeded in raising $2million dollars for the Campaign for Independence with over $785,000 coming from the Globe Miami community. The money raised in Globe-Miami for the campaign will be spent on projects in the two communities over the next four years.
For the first time in the school’s history they will be concentrating on a rural community for the next four years and bringing their creative and notable resources to bear on projects in our community which are as diverse as housing, open space, artists in residence, youth engagement, event venues, tourism, and small business development.
In releasing the information last Tuesday, Jason Donofrio, Director of Development for Taliesin said,
“In just three short months we raised over $785K, passed resolutions of support through the Miami Town Council, Globe City Council, IDA, EDC, and Gila County Board of Supervisors. We identified over 70 local business owners and residents who are interested in working with us on the project, and have begun the dialogue process with both the Miami and Globe School Boards. We have lit a spark in the community and have helped to lay the groundwork necessary for a successful and impactful project.”
When students come back in January, they will begin to prioritize the projects and information they reviewed with stakeholders throughout the Globe-Miami area and establish their game plan for the coming year. The students plan to share time between Globe-Miami and Taliesin West during 7 months of the year, with the balance spent working at the Taliesin campus in Wisconsin where they will continue to work on the Globe-Miami projects.
