GLOBE-A Volunteer Day is planned Saturday, October 7 at the Old Dominion Historic Mine Park; with summer winding down, there will be plenty of cleanup to do to get ready for the winter. Community and civic groups and individuals are invited to come out and help continue the work on this gem of a park. Work will range from cleaning trails and display areas to more specialized work on a footbridge, securing exhibits, putting up signage and delineate the parking area. The work will be under way from 8 am through the morning. Water and snacks will be provided, and it is suggested that volunteers wear long pants and closed toe shoes and bring gloves, sunscreen and a hat. Anyone with tools they would donate use of for the day such as rakes, hoes and clippers that could be used on the trails is invited to bring them.
As a walking park, the OD is a wonderful addition to Globe’s park system with trails ranging from easy to moderate. And each trail offers a wealth of information on the history of the mine, Globe and mining in general. Old Dominion Park is access off of Murphy Street near DeMarco’s. If you haven’t been there year, take a few hours during this beautiful spring weather and check it out.
If your group is interested in participating, please leave your contact information with the chamber of commerce, 425-4495. The chamber is working with the community volunteer group that has been hard at work for many years to make the park and its amenities a reality. All volunteers are welcome at this special event.
Guest Contributors include press releases, guest authors, and columnists who contribute less than 4 times a year.
