The driver in a single-vehicle collision just east of Globe was pronounced dead at the scene at about 12:30 on Sept. 20.
The Globe Police Department, along with the Gila County Sheriff’s Office and The Department of Public Safety, responded to the area of Hwy. 60 and Hwy. 254 in reference to the single vehicle collision.
The collision resulted in a fatality of the single occupant, a 20-year-old male from out of the Gila County area. The investigation, which is being conducted by the Globe Police Department, is ongoing, but the initial investigation shows that the collision was a result of the driver driving over the posted speed limit.
Globe Fire personnel responded but the single occupant of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene. The roadway was closed by the Arizona Department of Transportation for approximately two hours while investigators gathered evidence and cleared the scene.
