Miami Unified School District announces Board Vacancy

GLOBE- Gila County School Superintendent Roy A. Sandoval has announced the time line and process for appointment of a governing board member to the Miami Unified School District Governing Board.
A vacancy has occurred due to the resignation of Joseph Jarvis. The term of this appointment will run through December 31, 2020.

In accordance with state statutes, the county school superintendent is charged with appointing governing board members. Registered voters who have lived in the Miami Unified School District for at least one year are eligible to apply for appointment to the governing board. In addition to the residence requirement, Arizona Revised Statutes § 15-421 stipulates that appointees 1) cannot be employed by the district, nor can their spouse; 2) cannot be a member of any other school district governing board; and 3) cannot have any members of their immediate family who currently reside with them (or have resided in their home within the last four years) who are members of the governing board.

Potential board members are required to complete an application document as part of the appointment process. Governing board applicants must also submit a letter of interest and three letters of reference, and participate in a personal interview. Application packets are available at the school district office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday. Application materials are also available at the Gila County Schools Office at the Courthouse in Globe, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM or online at https://www.gilacountyaz.gov/government/school_superintendent/governing_boards.php.

The deadline for submission of application documents is 5:00 PM, Thursday, June 15, 2017. A selection committee will paper screen applications and interview selected candidates. Sandoval plans to appoint the new board member by June 19, 2017.
