Roosevelt, AZ – Tonto National Monument invites the public to assist with the collection of bird data for the National Audubon Society’s 120th Annual Christmas Bird Count on Saturday, December 21, 2019. The bird count will be conducted during Monument hours from
8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Participants can register for the count at the Visitor Center where data recording materials, identifications guides, and binoculars are available for use during the event. All levels of birding are encouraged to participate in this citizen science experience. This event is free and open to the public.
Guided birding excursions will be available for visitors at the times and locations below. Please meet at the Tonto National Monument Visitor Center to register for a group and receive data recording materials prior to the listed time.
9:00 a.m. – Cactus Patch Trail
10:00 a.m. – Riparian Area*
11:00 a.m. – Windy Hill Campground
2:00 p.m. – Cactus Patch Trail
3:00 p.m. – Riparian Area*
*The trail to the riparian area is an unpaved dirt trail with many loose rocks and stone steps
This citizen science project will assist the National Audubon Society in its nationwide survey, and provide Tonto National Monument with an updated species inventory.
