The grand historic buildings which line the 8-block downtown district of Globe, Arizona tells a story of Globe’s standing as one of Arizona’s founding communities. It is at the heart of Arizona both physically and historically. Great wealth and opportunity was found here at the beginning of the century thanks to a robust mining and cattle industry.
A building boom brought about by the convergence of a rich mining industry and the arrival of a rail line in 1898 resulted in much of the Globe downtown district you see today.
Dozens of commercial buildings which define Globe’s downtown business district were built between 1904 and 1916. This period saw the construction of grand buildings made of brick and stone, as well as concrete and timber.
