Fire breaks out in downtown Miami

GLOBE_ Fire broke out in downtown Miami this morning, with the first calls coming in around 2:30 a.m.

Fire departments from Tri-City, Globe, Payson and Tonto Basin responded and battled the fire for nearly 5 hours this morning before getting it contained. It is believed to have started at 417 Sullivan where it spread to four other buildings. They were hampered by limited access to the back which was bordered by the creek, and the fact that most of the roofs had collapsed making it impossible to get inside the buildings.

The buildings affected were not occupied at the time and there are no injuries.

The personal and financial loss to property owners and the town of Miami is yet to be determined.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Local businesses which were on the same side of the street as the fire, but were not affected, include Inspired by Time Antiques, Sullivan Street Antiques and Miami Rose Antiques.

This is a developing story with more to follow.

  1. A tragedy for the historic town of Miami.

  2. Your publication and timely reporting are beyond awesome. If you are not careful, the Globe Miami times is going to become our area paper of public record if it not already has.

    • Thanks for the kind words. We can never replace weekly coverage, but we do what we can and hope to add depth to the stories we do cover.
