PHOENIX, August 8, 2017—
New Developed Campground Fees Going into effect
The Tonto National Forest continues to implement fee changes. These changes were based on two years of public input regarding how recreational users and the public would like developed recreation sites managed. Based on the public’s desire to keep sites open and operated by the Tonto National Forest, a new fee structure is being implemented in stages.
Comments received during open houses and from the fee attitude survey made it clear that Tonto National Forest visitors want convenient ways to pay fees. The Tonto National Forest has listened to the wishes of our visiting public and have installed fee machines at or near many of the popular campgrounds and developed recreation sites. Beginning August 14, forest visitors will be able to use a credit card to purchase their Tonto Daily Pass, water craft pass, and camping fees at or near recreation sites and campgrounds. These machines will not accept cash, and no personal information will be stored by the fee machine. Fees at the onsite machines will be: $12 for a Day pass and $18 for a Day pass with one watercraft. Visitors may continue to purchase Tonto Passes and watercraft stickers from all Tonto National Forest Offices, or from over 200 vendors across the state to avoid paying the onsite fees.
The Tonto will also begin implementing the new developed campground fees. The following developed campgrounds will begin charging the new overnight camping fees on August 14, 2017:

Individuals who have an Interagency America the Beautiful Senior or Access Pass will pay half price for camping within developed campgrounds. The maximum number of people per individual camp unit is 10 people, and 20 people at a double camp unit. The maximum number of vehicles, including trailers, is three per single camp unit, and six per double unit. All vehicles and trailers must completely fit within the designated parking area. Check-in time is 12:00 pm and check-out time is 10:00 am. The forest will also be offering reservations for a portion of all developed campgrounds in the near future. This will give visitors the opportunity to secure a site prior to their arrival. These reservations will be through www.recreation.gov.
The Tonto Daily Pass, Tonto Discovery Pass (Tonto Annual Pass), and the Interagency Passes will not be valid in developed campgrounds. Interagency Passes will be accepted at Picnic sites, and the Tonto Daily and Tonto Discovery Passes will be accepted at Picnic or Day-use only sites; Shoreline sites, and Boat Launches.
In January 2017, The Tonto National Forest also began offering the annual Tonto Discovery Pass at a $20 discount to persons who qualify for the Interagency America the Beautiful Access Pass.
