Editor’s Note: Updated numbers and race winners will be updated as provisional and early ballots are processed. Bolded numbers are top vote-getters so far.
Voter turnout for Gila County was almost 70 percent as opposed to voter turnout of 55% for the state of Arizona. Eric Mariscal, elections director, said all of the early ballots have been processed, and his office expects to receive the provisional ballots by 4 p.m. today (Thursday). There are about 1,221 provisional ballots that must be processed, and Mariscal expects those to be completed by noon tomorrow.
Following are the unofficial results as of Nov. 9, 2016, for the election in Gila County. For the purpose of serving the local community, we will start with the most local races first.
- Sheriff:
- Adam Shepherd (R) – 62.16%
- Darrell Stubbs (I) – 37.55%
- Write-In: .29%
- Board of Supervisors District 2:
- Tim Humphrey (R) – 53.81%
- Michael Pastor (D) – 46.19%
- Board of Supervisors District 3:
- Woody Cline (R) – 51.88%
- John Marcanti (D) – 47.81%
- State Senator District 8:
- Frank Pratt (R) – 47.05%
- Barbara McGuire (D) – 52.83%
- Write-In – .12%
- State Representative District 8 (vote for 2):
- David Cook (R) – 38.64%
- Thomas T.J. Shope (R) – 29.12%
- Carmen Casillas (D) – 32.13% (Came in second in vote-getting for Gila County, but did not win the seat).
- Write-In – .11%
- State Representative District 7:
- Wenona Benally (D) – 51.11%
- Eric Descheenie (D) – 48.53%
- Globe Unified School District 1 (vote for 3):
- Jacque Cline-Sanders – 29.33%
- Anna M. Harmon-James – 25.50%
- Robert Howard – 19.59%
- Judy Moorhead – 25.32%
- San Carlos Unified School District 20 (vote for 2):
- Marion Case – 16.36%
- Sherrie Harris – 34.37%
- Tara Kitcheyan – 22.89%
- Joan M.S. Thompson – 25.20%
More than 62 percent of the voters in Gila County supported Donald Trump for president of the United States, and more than 60 percent supported incumbent John McCain as United States senator. More than 55% of Gila County voters supported Tom O’Halleran (D) in his successful bid for U.S. Representative of Congress District 1, and 74.8% of county voters supported Paul Gosar (R) in his run for U.S. Representative in Congress District 4.

- Yes – 42.81%
- No – 57.19%
- Arizona Proposition 206 – $12 Minimum Wage:
- Yes – 55.24%
- No – 44.76%
Running unopposed were County Attorney Bradley Beauchamp, County Treasurer Debora Savage, County School Superintendent Roy Sandoval, County Recorder Sadie Jo Bingham, County Assessor Deborah Hughes.
