Capstone donates funds for Mine benches

GLOBE- Ana Petty of Capstone-Pinto Valley Mine presented a check for $3,000 to fund construction of six ore car benches at the Old Dominion Mine Park (ODMP).

The bench design is by Bruce Binkley, Architect, and the historic ore car chassis were donated by BHP.  Also in the picture are ODMP committee members (left to right) Thea Wilshire, Bruce Binkley, Mary Anne Moreno, and Linda Gustafson standing with the bench prototype.

Gila Community College workforce training students will be fabricating the majority of the remaining benches as a class project.  For durability, the benches are being constructed of ipe (Brazilian walnut) as it is one of the world’s hardest wood, will stand up to the intense sun exposure, and has a fire rating equal to steel.
