Palmer Report January 13th

I can not help myself. I have come down with a bad case of #AZBIRDGANG fever! For those that do not know that is an extreme excitement for our National Football League team the Arizona Cardinals. The NFL regular season is over. The Cardinals had 13 wins and only 3 losses. This secured them a spot in the playoffs and a first round bye. With a record setting year the Cardinals have gained national attention as a favorite to compete in the Super Bowl. First things first, the Cardinals must face the Green Bay Packers.

Bird Gang Wing Party

Join us at the Drift Inn Saloon on Broad Street in Downtown Globe for a Bird Gang Wing Party! The Arizona Cardinals host the Green Bay Packers as Aaron Rodgers and the pack attack head to the desert for a rematch of a 38-8 beat down handed to them by the Cardinals defense. The Packers have gone on record saying that they will be a lot more competitive this time around. The Drift Inn is offering specials on hot wings for the Bird Gang a.k.a. Cardinals fans. They also serve hamburgers as well as other appetizers to go with your drink of choice. The game will be playing on the TV’s at the bar as well as the dining tables. The game starts at 6:15pm.

After the game join Stephen and Zenada as they host Open Mic Night at Farley’s Pub. This promises to be a fun night as we will hopefully be celebrating a Cardinals victory. Even if the clutches of defeat ensnare us we can still have a good time by remembering recent rock legends David Bowie of his own renown and Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead. Each of these artists brought their own flavor to music that can not be replaced. However, we can all play on in tribute by learning their music and adding our own taste to it. Dust off that old choir voice and join the gang after the Cardinals game at Farley’s Pub for a good ol’ sing along.

Huddle up at the Huddle

You can drive up and down Broad Street in downtown Globe a dozen times and never see this treasured hole in the wall establishment. The Huddle has been servicing Globe for as long as I can remember. Once you know where it is you never forget as the good times just keep on flowing. They have a wonderful back patio with fresh air that closed off enough to keep the elements out. They have a pool table and dart board as well as a jute box. In accordance with the name they always have the game on several TV’s placed throughout the bar. If you are looking to get out of the house to catch a few playoff games this weekend The Huddle is a great place to be.

The Liquor Stables is Seeing Red

If you have lived in Globe or Miami for some time you may remember the old Liquor Stables. Well, the new Liquor Stables would be quite a shock to you. The bar has been completely renovated. In what used to be a drab and unlit space is now a modern sports bar look. The fresh paint is red and white with Cardinals logo’s throughout. The TV’s are decent sized and plentiful. While they do not serve food you may bring your own in. With Subway next door and a variety of other restaurants just up the street this does not pose much of a problem. The Huddle is located on Highway 60 just east of Highway 188. If you are on the west side of Globe this bar would be the ideal place to catch some playoff football this weekend.

Market Must Stop

The Pickle Barrell is a staple on the Globe-Miami antique shop highway. Located on Broad Street at the south end of Downtown Globe the Pickle Barel is hard to miss as it is a an old brick train station with a metal roof. Before you even enter the store you are taken back by the wonderful metal sculpture work of their lawn ornaments that are on display just outside the doors. As you enter you are bombarded with early mining, Native American and pioneer artifacts and gifts. It may take a few minutes to get your bearings as the store is rather large and setup in sections. Once you get a sense of direction and begin shopping you are bound to never leave. Since they close at 5:45pm during the week and 5pm on Sundays you do actually have to go home but are welcome back at 10am when they open.

Taste of the Week

El Ranchito is located on Broad Street at the north end of Downtown Globe. There are quite a few Mexican food places to go in Globe but El Ranchito has become a local favorite. Their salsa is sweet and spicy as it is served with delicious homemade chips. Their service is prompt and polite whether you are ordering take out or preparing to dine in. I was recommended to try anything with beans or enchilada sauce. As simple as that may sound it was great advice. After lunch or dinner they also have sopapillas or fried ice cream for desert. The prices are very affordable, the staff was friendly and the food was tasty as promised.
