Hillenbrand has done it again

You may remember author Laura Hillenbrand from previous books; Seabiscuit: An American Legend (2001) and Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption (2010). Her latest book is Unbroken: An Extraordinary True Story of Courage and Survival (2014) and has been on the New York best seller list for more than 125 weeks.

There have only been five other nonfiction books in history on the best seller that have been on the list longer so you know this true story is something special.

Lieutenant Louis Zamperini finds himself as a bombardier in World War 2 flying over the Pacific Ocean. One minute he is in the air, and the next he is floating in the Pacific in his plane’s own wreckage.   He is surrounded by thousands of miles of ocean, sharks, and enemy aircraft.  Zamperini is able to get to a tiny raft but he is without food and water.  How will he survive?  What drives him to keep going although many in his situation would give up?  His whole survival relies on his will to live and the decisions he makes in the face of great trials. This book took seven years to make and is an example of an extreme journey and a man filled with ingenuity, hope, resolve, and humor.

The Wall Street Journal says it is”EXTRAORDINARILY MOVING…Beautifully paced….gripping…a powerfully drawn survival epic…Ms. Hillenbrand has a gift for dusting off history and presenting it as a compelling drama.”
