Annual Light Parade canceled due to heightened COVID concerns.

After much deliberation, we at the Globe Downtown Association have decided to change gears for the 2020, 24th Annual Globe Downtown Christmas Light Parade.  There will be NO formal organized light parade which encourages the gathering of many people both on the floats, and off. Instead, we are going to work on a major lights and decor plan with the businesses & buildings downtown to encourage people to enjoy over and again throughout the month. In small healthy groups people can walk and/or drive by to visit, stop, shop and enjoy our downtown in a responsible and healthy way during this pandemic.  We are diligently working on the specifics of the plan to roll out and implement prior to the original 2nd Saturday’s event date.  We encourage that if you love to participate in the parade as an entry, that you consider adopting a business, and/or a section of Globe historic downtown to help to light it up in a way like we’ve never seen before.  We are a community most blessed, and stronger because we all work together.

After much success with our virtual Halloween event, we will continue with our virtual holiday contest to coincide with this “lighting of downtown” event.  Look for some fun new categories like “Holiday Baking” (all about the visual and license to eat it all by yourself), “Christmas Carols”(sing and/or play short videos, thank-you Zeneda Webb for this great idea), “Selfie with an Elfie” and “Oh Christmas Tree” among others.   Thank-you for all of the suggestions that came flooding in, there are many many great ideas that that can be considered for a future non-pandemic year and we are looking forward to considering the changes. The board appreciates each and everyone who contributed with all of their ideas and feedback.  Volunteers are welcomed!  We know that 2020 will look a little different, but let’s stick together and make it a healthy one for everyone.   Happy Holidays!
