Michael Hunter McCarey, 61, passed away on September 7, 2026, just days before his 62nd birthday.
Michael was born on Sept. 14, 1964, to Charles Allen McCarey and Aaron Fay Hunter McCarey. He attended both the University of Arizona and Northern Arizona University and earned a master’s degree. Michael found happiness in the beauty of the outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting and hiking, and he was happiest when surrounded by nature. He was also a talented builder and woodworker with a deep appreciation for art. Whether he was creating something with his hands, spending time outdoors or simply being with the people he loved, Michael brought thoughtfulness and quiet joy to everything he did.
Above all, Michael loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and uncle whose calm, gentle and loving spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Tina S. McCarey; his sons, Michael Heath McCarey and his wife, Lienna, and their children, Alice, Jane, Lucy, and Harvey; Hobie John McCarey; Haden Cluff McCarey; Hunter Woods McCarey and his wife, Jazlynn, and their children, Nalani and Mateo; Vasily Zinchenko and his wife, Kelsi, and their children, Kolya and Lilia; and Valentine Wilcox and his wife, Abby, and their children, Lyla and Ivy.
He is also survived by his mother, Aaron F. McCarey; his sister, Penny Louise Ballesteros; and his nephew and niece, Santiago Aaron Lem and Selena Jasmine Ballesteros.
Michael’s memory will live on through his family, the many lives he touched, and the countless lessons and moments of happiness he shared. His family finds comfort in knowing that he is at peace and that his loving spirit will continue to guide them. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
