Trini Mawson, 92, of Globe, Arizona, passed away on Tuesday Sept. 1, 2026, in Gilbert, Arizona. Trini was born on Sept. 13, 1933, in Zapotlanejo, Jalisco, Mexico, to Miguel and Pilar Esparza. She was the third of ten children.
In 1944, she immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized U.S. citizen at the age of 18. Trini was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, whose life was centered on family. She was deeply devoted to her parents and helped care for her younger siblings while growing up. As a young woman, she worked at El Rey Restaurant in Miami, Arizona, helping her parents with the family business.
Trini was the first in her family to graduate from high school; she graduated from Miami High School in 1954. That same year, she attended beauty school in Phoenix and became a licensed cosmetologist. Upon returning to Miami, she opened Trini's Beauty Salon. In 1967, she chose to dedicate herself full-time to raising her family and caring for her parents. In the early 1980s, she returned to the workforce, first at the Treehouse Daycare and later at Copper Rim Elementary School.
In 1959, Trini married Dewey Mawson. Together they shared 67 years of marriage filled with love, laughter, dancing, family picnics, vacations and cherished holiday traditions. They created a home filled with warmth and happy memories for their daughters and then later for their grandchildren.
Trini enjoyed cooking, sewing, dancing and spending time with family. Her greatest joy was her four grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to support them and took great pride in being part of their lives, celebrating every milestone, event and accomplishment.
Trini was preceded in death by her parents, Miguel and Pilar Esparza; her daughters, Mary Margaret Mawson and Carolyn Haro; and her sisters Maria Horta, Alicia Avalos, Erlinda Monarrez and Esperanza Cordes. She is survived by her loving husband, Dewey Mawson; her daughter, Gina Wiley (Dennis); her son-in-law, Greg Haro; her grandchildren, Allison Wiley, Tim Wiley (Rayleen), Matt Haro, and Ben Haro; and her siblings, Guayo Esparza, Bertha Mansour (John), Maggie Northey, Mike Esparza (Maureen), and Joe Esparza (Debbie).
