‘The Christmas Elf - How Chuckles Saved the Day’

The Copper Cities Community Players take to the stage with Christmas spirit

Posted

The annual Christmas show at the Old Courthouse Theater at Cobre Valley Center for the Arts is coming up soon on December 5, 6, 11, 12, and 14. This year, it’s “The Christmas Elf - How Chuckles Saved the Day,” an original play written by Jason Marr.

It’s a play full of music, dancing, and holiday fun that everyone in the family will enjoy. The cast includes some of your favorite actors and singers from the Copper Cities Community Players, plus two new young faces with starring roles.

The stage is set when dad brings home the Christmas Elf before the big day. But dad soon finds he gets more than he bargained for. Is it the kids who need watching over, or is it really him?

Even annoying neighbors, skeptical children, and some furry masked bandits aren’t enough to keep Chuckles from completing his mission. He’s Santa’s official representative, and it’s up to him to get everyone into the Christmas spirit.

Will Chuckles succeed? Will the kids ever find out how Santa gets into a house without a chimney? Is fruitcake really edible? You’ll just have to load up the kids and come see this heartwarming play to find out.

There are five performances of “The Christmas Elf - How Chuckles Saved the Day,” including a special evening gala performance and an afternoon matinee. For tickets and showtimes, call the Center for the Arts at 928-425-0884.

Sunday, December 14  Matinee at 2:30 pm $25

An annual Christmas performance and lots more

The Copper Cities Community Players have produced an annual Christmas show at the Cobre Valley Center for the Arts for three decades. The first one, in the early 1990s, had modest beginnings with a handful of actors and singers dressed in rented tuxedos, promoting the show with hand-written invitations.

Much has changed in the last 30 years, with Christmas performances that often include dozens of local actors, singers, and dancers — even kids and their whole families. Some of the Christmas programs have featured over 40 people in the cast and crew!

A few memorable shows include “Justa Christmas,” “Santa’s Last Ride,” and last year’s “Christmas on the Orient Express.” All three of these were original plays with dialogue and music written and arranged by members of the Copper Cities Community Players.

With a brand-new sound system and comfortable seating for nearly 100, the Old Courthouse Theater is the perfect venue to enjoy this traditional Christmas time event.

The annual Christmas show is generally only one or two performances, but the Players broke the mold this year to give everyone more chances to see this soon-to-be holiday classic. “The Christmas Elf” extends over two weekends with five total performances taking place on December 5, 6, 11, 12, and 14.

In addition to the annual Christmas show, the Players present a major spring and fall production each year. They also contribute their acting talent to the annual Cemetery and Ghosts of Globe tours, two events that bring in many visitors from outside the community.
