Globe-Miami Community Concert Series

Posted

The 71st season of the Globe-Miami Community Concert Series is just around the corner and it’s sure to get some toes tapping and heads bobbing.

The series features six concerts — one monthly from November to April. It is presented by the Globe-Miami Community Concert Association, which relies heavily on community support through season memberships. The cost of an adult membership breaks down to approximately $8.33 per concert.

At the end of last year’s concert season, there were 266 members. In the past, Jones said they had around 400 members, but covid caused their numbers to dwindle and they are still working to get back to that.

A goal of the GMCCA is to educate and expose the community to music they wouldn’t normally hear.

Concert lineup

All concerts start at 7 p.m. at the High Desert Middle School auditorium and the season kicks off with the Tucson Symphony Percussion Quartet on Nov. 17.

December brings the Wild Swans’ Irish Christmas.

Ring in the new year with The Sound of Julie on Jan. 22. Vocalist Hayley Renee covers the biggest songs from Julie Andrews and more.

February’s show features Crawdaddio, bringing the rhythm of Mardi Gras.

Back by popular demand for March is Julliard-trained pianist Thomas Pandolfi.

Wrapping up the concert series is WildcatJazz on April 2.

Sue Jones, GMCCA board president, said that, while the acts are different than members may be used to, she thinks there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

“The pianist (Thomas Pandolfi) is back because members asked for him to come back. Crawdaddio is zydeco cajun music, which we’ve never done here before,” She said. “WildcatJazz also has never been here before — some local jazz aficionados have been requesting jazz.”

She added, “The percussion quartet does things similar to ‘Stomp’ - you can make music with just about anything, and the Irish music is Celtic with traditional instruments.”

“The Sound of Julie (Hayley Renee) sang two songs last year while her husband was playing piano, and, boy, could she sing,” Jones said. She has returned with her own show.

A season membership, which includes all six concerts and guest passes, is $50 per adult or $10 per student. There also are ticket deals available for families. For tickets or more information, please visit globemiamiconcerts.org.
