I am writing to voice my disappointment in GMT’s failure to cover the San Carlos Apache led March to Oak Flat. Over 100 people walked through Globe/Miami to Oak Flat. SC Apaches, Natives from Tribes from this region and beyond, and non-native allies walked/ran for our battle to protect Oak Flat. This land is original Apache territory in the Tonto National Forest, protected from mining since 1955 and listed on the National Registry of Historic places, because of its historical, archeological and cultural significance. It will be dewatered, destroyed and contaminated by Resolution Copper. Media from around the world walked on this spiritual march because of its global significance. This is an epic story of Apache led opposition to the US Government give-away of their sacred homeland to foreign mining companies. Failure to cover this story is like saying it wasn’t important and that it didn’t happen.
