What was recently a blank white wall, is now a colorful vibrant canvas of adventures. A big book bursting with butterflies, stars, and poppies is now adorning the front wall of the Miami Memorial Library. The mural was created by artist Adrienne Wakefield as part of local nonprofit Love Where You Live’s Miami Memorial Library Public Art Project.
Wakefield spent the week of May 18 painting the colorful Miami mural. It is the fourth she has painted for LWYL. The mural on the library began with a couple of ideas from Regina Ortega, the nonprofit’s creative services director.
“I took the idea of sitting on the bench,” Wakefield said. “I wanted to add a lot of color to add life to Miami.”
She said she also enjoys giving the community “something awesome to take pictures in front of.”
In the fall, phase two of the library project will include a mural with community involvement.
In addition to Globe-Miami, Wakefield also has art on display in neighboring areas like Superior, the East Valley and Safford.
