Heavy rain just after 6:00 p.m., flowing through narrow channels, quickly indundated Pinal Creek. Damage could have been significantly worse without the diversion dam and culvert directing flow from McCormick Basin away from Bailey Street and into the Creek coming from Copper Hills.
The chart shows the collection of rainwater at six different rain gauges dispersed throughout the Globe area. Each colored line represents a collection site. The chart shows a dramatic increase in the amount of water collected at all of the sites by 6 p.m. Friday evening.
Most Globe-Miami residents are familiar with Kellner Canyon, Ice House, Six Shooter and Pioneer Pass as major watersheds feeding Pinal Creek. Circle A.
But several smaller but significant watersheds feed Pinal Creek in downtown Globe with relatively narrow flow channels into the creek. While it’s easy to overlook these watersheds, they represent more than one-third of the surface area outside of town. Circle B
