Trailer fire near Rod Plant causes alarm

To the casual observer east of Claypool, it looked like the Freeport-McMoRan Mine Rod Plant on US 60 was on fire.

Truth be told, a work trailer being pulled by a truck belonging to Power Contracting out of Phoenix burst into flames Thursday (Aug 7) near the Rod Plant. Just minutes after 8:00am, the driver was able to pull through the intersection onto the shoulder of New Street next to the plant, safely detach the trailer and move himself and the truck out of danger.

The trailer, containing equipment, tools and supplies, was consumed before Tri-City Fire could extinguish the blaze completely.   Electric power to the area was cut temporarily, interrupting the traffic lights at US 60 and New Street.  The Tri-City Fire Department is a few blocks east. Globe Fire Department dispatched a tanker to back up the engine from Tri-City.

Nobody was injured in the incident.
