SUPERIOR, AZ — Town of Superior Mayor Mila Besich has been invited to serve another term on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Small Communities Advisory Subcommittee, continuing her advocacy for rural communities and local governments at the national level.

Extended by EPA Administrator Lee M. Zeldin, the reappointment follows Besich's previous service under the Biden administration and continues her federal advisory role under the Trump administration, reflecting the value of local leadership and collaboration across administrations.

Established in 1996, the Small Communities Advisory Subcommittee serves under the EPA's Local Government Advisory Committee, providing recommendations to the EPA Administrator on environmental issues affecting smaller communities. Its work helps ensure that federal policies consider the distinct needs and challenges of rural and small-town governments.

“Serving as mayor of Superior has taught me that caring for our environment and building a strong local economy are inextricably linked and should never be considered as mutually exclusive responsibilities,” said Mayor Besich. “I am proud to bring our community’s perspective to this national conversation and help develop recommendations that support healthy, resilient and thriving small towns.”

Besich's reappointment comes as she assumes the presidency of the League of Arizona Cities and Towns, representing all 92 incorporated municipalities across Arizona. Together, these leadership roles underscore her commitment to ensuring smaller communities have a voice in state and national policy discussions while advancing environmental stewardship and economic opportunity.

Her new one-year term runs from Oct. 16, 2026, through Oct. 16, 2027.
