The Salvation Army said today that it is pivoting to accepting only monetary gifts for local flood relief.
Donations by APS, the United Fund of Globe-Miami, Inc., and other contributors have made funds available to the Salvation Army to assist local residents with rent, utility bills, home repairs, and short-term housing.
Financial assistance (along with in-kind donations) is available for residents affected by the flooding at The Salvation Army Globe Service Center at 161 E Cedar Street, which has been serving the local community for 70 years. Assistance is available from 9 am - 5 pm Monday thru Friday.
"The generosity of people who have been coming to the aid of their neighbors in need during this disaster has been tremendous," said Hannah Eisenberg, Director of Emergency Disaster Services for the Salvation Army Southwest Division.
That compassion means we have had many more items coming into our warehouse location a the Gila County fairgrounds than have been going out. The effort to take in, sort, and inventory those items is enormous, and we would like to ensure that our small team of staff and volunteers can now concentrate on getting these items to people who need them and providing financial assistance," added Eisenberg.
To date, The Salvation Army has assisted more than 1,500 flood survivors, providing financial support and goods valued at over $135,000.
Residents can continue to pick up goods and supplies at The Salvation Army’s temporary warehouse at the Gila County Fairgrounds, open Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Financial donations can be made online at SalvationArmySouthwest.org or by texting GLOBE to 51555.
One hundred percent of designated gifts go directly to disaster relief efforts. Financial donations offer flexibility to meet both immediate and long-term needs of survivors and first responders.
Purchasing needed items locally also helps sustain the local economy, supporting businesses and workers affected by the disaster.
Continued monetary donations will be vital to the long-term recovery of the Globe-Miami community.
