Arizona Snowbowl will be offer three more weeks of skiing!

Flagstaff, Ariz. --  While the Grand Canyon state’s southern region

experienced triple-digit temperatures this week, Arizona Snowbowl

reported new snowfall. The surprise appearance from Mother Nature to

the Flagstaff resort brings the season snowfall total to nearly 30

feet (333 inches) -- the second highest amount for a season over the

last 25 years.

Resort officials announce they will offer snow-enthusiasts three more

weekends of winter by adding both May 11-12 and May 18-19 to their

spring schedule, in addition to May 3-5. The historic announcement

designates the 2018-2019 ski season as the longest in recorded history

(the previous record was held by the 2016-2017 season). An official

closing date has yet to be announced.

Snowbowl plans to celebrate the extended season this weekend with live

music on May 4 by Viola & the Brakemen from 1:00 to 4:30pm. On May

5th, the resort will host “Snowbowl de Mayo”, a Cinco de Mayo

celebration in partnership with Barrio Brewing Company featuring live

music plus food and drink specials from 10a to 5:30p. All festivities

will be held on the deck of the Agassiz Lodge. Guests can also save up

to 90% off on retail items at Agassiz Lodge.

If the current season could be described in a few words JR Murray,

General Manager, says his only answer would be ‘record-breaking.’

While the resort doesn’t disclose visitation numbers, Murray confirms

Snowbowl is seeing double-digit growth over the prior season. Both

March and April saw significant increases in skier visits compared to

2018.

“We’re all skiers at heart - that’s why we’re in the business that

we’re in - and want to be on the slopes just as long as our guests,”

stated Murray. “We will continue to evaluate mountain conditions and

keep everyone abreast of a closing date.”

Murray credits the elongated season, in part, to an automated

snowmaking system, which covers over 75% of the ski trails, providing

a dependable foundation for Mother Nature. With favorable conditions,

the system is capable of producing 21.6 acres feet of snow in a single

night which could cover Route 66, four lanes wide, with a foot deep of

snow for approximately 4 miles.

“One thing is for certain: This season is already one for the history

books and we don’t even have a closing date announced!” comments

Murray.

Discounted lift tickets for May 3-5 are available at the ticket

window: $49 Adults (18-64), $39 Teens (13-17), Child (11-12) and

Senior $29 (65-69) while guests 10 and under and 70 and better ski

FREE everyday of the season. Lift ticket prices for May 11-12 and

18-19 have not been announced. For terrain and lift information, visit

Snowbowl’s snow report page on its website Snowbowl.ski.

Snowbowl kicks off summer Friday, May 24 with daily scenic chairlift
