The Gila RV Park & Batting Range, located at the end of South Broad Street, sits beside the creek under a canopy of mature shade trees that have long made it a favorite stop for travelers and seasonal residents. The park’s proximity to downtown Globe has also made it a temporary home for contractors working with the local mines and on major construction projects.

The night of the flood, many of the park’s residents had already pulled out for the weekend, but not everyone made it out in time. One man, whose RV was swept into the floodwaters, escaped with a broken leg after his rig became lodged in debris just across from 60’s Motors. His full story is told here:

“The park here, and the one just above us, is where all the contractors stay who are in the area for jobs—whether that’s with the mines or the many construction projects—so it’s critical we get back as soon as possible,” said owner Mark Devereaux, who operates the property with his wife, Rachael.

Devereaux said he was deeply grateful for the immediate help that arrived after the flood. “DJ’s showed up Saturday morning and removed more than three feet of debris and overburden,” he said. “Then J&S Towing came in to pull out the remaining rigs, and that same day, Shelby Barrowdale of Gila Monster Construction worked on restoring our electrical.”

With an estimated 30 businesses along Broad Street affected by the flooding, Devereaux said the quick response meant the world to him. “For these guys to get out to so many of us right after this event—it means a lot.”
