The online application window for local businesses seeking flood relief through the United Fund of Globe-Miami closes today at 5 p.m., marking the end of a two-week application period.
United Fund has raised more than $1.9 million to support Globe-Miami flood victims. As of October 14, more than $1 million of that total—$1,078,603—had been designated specifically for businesses, the nonprofit reported at a Globe City Council meeting.
Businesses must apply online through Local First Arizona, the organization selected to manage the intake process, to be considered for funding. The application only takes a few minutes to fill out, according to those who have already applied.
“We opened applications on Thursday, October 16,” Jenna Rowell, Local First Arizona’s Director of Rural Development, shared October 22. “On Monday, October 20 we sent United Fund a list of 27 vetted applicants with dozens more applications now in process.”
According to Rowell, the applications are open to any flood-affected businesses within United Fund’s service area, and businesses are eligible to receive initial relief grants of up to $5,000, with the possibility of additional funding to be distributed later.
“Once we can talk with applicants to verify information in their application, we submit them to United Fund, who processes the payments,” she says.
As of today, at least 91 businesses have submitted applications, according to Susan Guerrero, United Fund’s community outreach manager.
