Lady Tigers fight against powerhouses

Posted

The Globe Lady Tigers faced one of the toughest tests on their schedule the end of November as the perennial powerhouse Valley Christian Trojans traveled up the mountain. The final score – 72 to 16 in favor of Valley Christian - reflects just how dominant the Trojans can be, but the Lady Tigers showed grit, effort, and some promising bright spots along the way.

Valley Christian came out in a swarming man-to-man defense, applying pressure from the opening tip. Their speed and anticipation made clean passes and open shots hard to come by for Globe, and by halftime, the Trojans had built a 58–12 lead. To their credit, the Lady Tigers regrouped and held Valley Christian to just 14 points in the second half - a strong defensive response against one of the top programs in the state. Valley Christian won the 3A Central Region last year and made a deep postseason run, and they could be a contender once again.

Offensively, Globe spread the scoring around. Jayde Verdugo added 2 points, while Kendahl Hooke went 1-for-2 from the free-throw line. Cheryl Cheney chipped in 2, Zoey Tulk finished with 4, and Sage Parsons added another 2. Soleil D’Avignon led the team with 5 points, including the Lady Tigers’ lone three-pointer of the night. For Valley Christian, senior point guard Ellie Phillips stood out defensively, piling up multiple steals and setting the tone for the Trojans.

The Lady Tigers traveled to Safford on Monday, December 1st and showed some competitive potential as they went down to the wire with the Safford Bulldogs. Globe only lost by three – 41 to 44 – in the tightly contest match.

Up next, Globe prepares for a home-and-away series with the American Leadership Academy -  Mesa North Mavericks before hosting San Tan Foothills on December 16th, their final game of 2025. After that, the Lady Tigers will ring in the new year with a tournament in the Valley, ready to keep growing and fighting together.
