State Representative Eli Crane and officials from the Town of Miami, including Mayor Gil Madrid, Councilman Phil Stewart, Business Owner, Gary Wilson, and Town Manager, Alexis Riveria, got a tour today of the destruction on US 60, which prompted ADOT to close the highway to traffic both to and from Miami to Superior.
All traffic is being rerouted through Winkleman.
The closure was announced on Saturday, October 11th, after heavy downpours created flooding in the canyon.
On social media, an ADOT press release noted there is no estimated time for reopening the highway.
However, the ADOT official told town officials it would take at least 30 days to repair the highway for through traffic.
NOTE: An ADOT official is quoted as " advising they have NOT set a timeline on the closure of 60 yet. They are working to hopefully be able to open one lane to alternate traffic through the damaged area. " Amy Byrd, @EverythingSuperiorArizona.
Images provided to us today from Town Manager Alexis Rivera show the extensive damage from Saturday's flooding in the canyon.
