Globe is bringing the Copper Kettle back home. In the 111th meeting of one of Arizona’s oldest and fiercest rivalries, the Tigers rolled past Miami 45-8 on Friday night, reclaiming the storied trophy after it spent six of the last seven years in Vandal territory.

The Tigers wasted no time setting the tone. Senior quarterback Jaeger Franco delivered the kind of performance that will be talked about long after the kettle cools, using both his arm and legs to keep Miami’s defense off balance. A gutsy fourth-down scramble early in the first quarter kept a drive alive and signaled Globe’s determination. By halftime, Franco had thrown for a touchdown, completed a two-point conversion, and rushed for another as Globe built a commanding 17-0 lead.

“We all played well. It was a great team win,” Franco said afterward. “I couldn’t be happier for this team. It was a total team effort.”

The momentum only grew after halftime. Franco broke loose for a 48-yard touchdown run on the opening possession of the third quarter, then connected with sophomore Landon Rios on a 50-yard scoring strike. Sophomore Braden Wager added a one-yard plunge, and freshman Devron De La Torre capped the scoring spree with a five-yard run. By the time the fourth quarter began, Globe held a 45-0 advantage, and the Copper Kettle was all but secured.

Miami refused to quit. Junior Hector Mariscal, who opened the game with a 23-yard dash, broke through late with a 55-yard touchdown run and added the two-point conversion to help the Vandals avoid the shutout. Senior Noah Combs gave a gritty performance as quarterback in the wildcat formation, wide receiver, and return man, while junior Raejon Way hauled in a pair of solid receptions.

Globe head coach Brady Hoff praised his team’s preparation and the electric atmosphere. “We had a police escort to the game, 1,000 fans cheering. I told them to enjoy it and play hard,” Hoff said. “These boys earned it.”

Friday’s win wasn’t just about reclaiming a trophy — it was about honoring a century-old tradition and adding one more chapter to a rivalry that has defined two towns for generations.
