David Brown, 51, of Globe did more than $10,000 worth of damage to Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center property before police put a stop to his rampage. This estimate does not include damage done to the oncology radiation building on the west end of the campus, according to the hospital’s public information director, Evelyn Vargas.

The Globe Police were called to the hospital just after 7 a.m. on the morning of Feb. 8 to reports of a man hurling large rocks through the hospital’s windows and glass doors. When they arrived, they learned that three separate buildings had sustained damage. When police attempted to approach Brown, he “confronted” them with a rock, according to Globe Police reports.

He was taken into custody without incident and charged with criminal damage and resisting arrest.

The radiation/oncology building was “severely” damaged and had to be closed for several days until repairs could be made, according to Vargas.

“We are so thankful that the clinics were closed at the time of the incident and no one was injured,” Vargas said. “We would like to compliment and thank the Globe Police Department for their quick response and professionalism.”

CVRMC could not comment on the state or the wellness of the man and did not supply Brown’s name to the newspaper; that information was gathered from the Globe Police news release.

Globe Miami Times is still gathering information about the incident and will report as it becomes available.
