Globe High School Hall of Fame Welcomes New Inductees

A new class of distinguished honorees has been added to the Globe High School Hall of Fame.
The Hall of Fame committee—led by President Darlene Medina, Vice President Mike Termain, and Secretary/Treasurer Patty Nolan—reviews nominations and selects inductees every other year.

At a special ceremony on October 18, the committee recognized 11 individuals and 4 teams for their outstanding achievements in athletics, education, and community service.

This year’s inductees are:

  • Emily Belvado (Athletic Achievement, Class of 2006) – Whittier College women’s basketball player; high school Honorable Mention All-American; 3A girls track state champion; and GHS girls basketball head coach from 2011–2023.

  • Frank Blanco (Athletic & Community Service, Class of 1966) – Lettered in football and baseball at Eastern Arizona College; EAC MVP in 1967; Arizona Republic All-State football 1965; 21 years of fire service and retired Globe fire chief.

  • Eldon Dallas (Athletic Achievement) – GHS varsity baseball coach from 1983–2003; led teams to state championships in 1995 and 1997, state runner-up titles in 1991, 1994, 2000, and 2001; and multiple conference championships.

  • Jerry DeRose (Community Service, Class of 1965) – Over 50 years in public and private legal service; Gila County Attorney (1994–2001); 25 years as a Globe volunteer fireman; reserve DPS officer (1994–1999); Liberty High School board member for 20 years; and GHS coach/trainer for five years.

  • Michael Frazier (Community Service, Class of 1971) – 46 years in public service including Phoenix Police Department (1975–2007); police chief in El Mirage (2007–2011) and Surprise (2011–2015); Surprise assistant city manager (2015–2018) and city manager (2018–2022).

  • Dr. Orval Keith “O.K.” Nutting (Achievement in Education) – Globe USD superintendent (1979–1996); oversaw construction of Copper Rim Elementary and GHS renovations; established JROTC, nursing, and dual-credit programs; and secured grants for bilingual and foreign-language education.

  • Vernon & Lynn Perry (Achievement in Education & Community Service) – Globe USD educators for 30 years; sponsors of Student Council and National Honor Society; and longtime Gila County Historical Museum board members.

  • Dr. Richard Ramos (Achievement in Education, Class of 1990) – 28 years in Arizona public education; recognized for leadership in diverse and underserved communities; championed equitable learning practices; and earned awards for educational innovation.

  • Bob Slough (Achievement in Education, Class of 1953) – 44 years in California public education; 21 years as a high school basketball coach with league championships in 1964, 1965, and 1967; former University of Arizona basketball player; and co-founder/journalist of The Athletic Directory.

  • Mark Salas (Excellence in Academics, Athletics & Service, Class of 1979) – Clinical laboratory scientist and blood bank/transfusion manager at Phoenix Veterans Hospital for 18 years; 39 years of service devoted to patient care.

Team Inductees:

  • 1995 & 1997 State Championship GHS Baseball Teams

  • 2023–24 & 2024–25 Division IV State Championship Pom Teams

Since its founding in 2011, the GHS Hall of Fame has recognized 122 individuals and 21 teams. Each honoree receives a personal plaque, with a duplicate displayed at the high school. Team honorees receive a framed team photo.
