Globe Gym owners hope to partially reopen by October 15

***UPDATE: Globe Gym opened on October 15th at 9 am. They posted a video on the newly renovated section and a return to 24/7 for gym members.  Follow them on Facebook for all the latest.

For the last two weeks, Globe Gym owners Ryan and Stacey Murry have been at the building every day working to get the gym up and running again.

“There hasn't been a day that there hasn't been someone there, morning and night,” Stacey says.

Theirs was one of many businesses the September flood wreaked havoc on. Flood waters were over a foot above the floor level around the entire perimeter of the building.

The Murrys have since gutted the building, installed new bathrooms, new drywall and insulation. By the time this article goes to press, they will have installed thousands of feet of new flooring and carpet.

All the rubber mats in the gym had to be replaced, each weighing 100 pounds.

Stacey found herself driving from the Valley back to Globe with 10,000 pounds of floor mats in a trailer at 40 miles an hour.

“I don't have a choice,” she says. “I have to do this.”

With the help of a team of Resolution Copper employees, the Murrys also repainted the entire interior and began moving gym equipment and mats.

All the powered gym equipment still needs to be checked for damage, but based on the current status of the building, the arrival of new materials and the labor involved to make it happen, Ryan and Stacey hope to partially reopen on October 15.

The City of Globe visited the gym for the first time on October 8, Stacey says. At that time, the gym was given a green tag for the building, meaning it was safe to enter.
