  • The city will hold a public informational meeting on March 17 at 5 p.m. to discuss the lawsuit filed against the City of Globe by AZ Water Company.

  • The city is applying for grant money from the Freeport McMoRan Mining Community Investment Fund by March 15. Council prioritized three projects to fund: historic lighting expansion from Oak Street to Cottonwood Street; a new roof on the Active Adult Center; and a phase two study for the Aquatic Center.

  • Arizona Department of Transportation confirmed that the design concept for a bypass from Superior to Globe has been tabled for at least the next 30 to 40 years due to lack of funds.

  • Ace Hardware received the Empty to Awesome Award for opening its new location on Ash Street.

  • Thanks to the Governor's Office of Highway Safety Grant, Globe Police purchased six portable breath testing devices, two lidars (light detection and ranging) and a total station for mapping accident and crime scenes. The grant also pays for two officers to attend accident reconstruction courses, in addition to $15,000 in overtime funding for DUI and speed enforcement.

  • The council prioritized the use of CDBG funding (community development block grant) for either a new fire truck (first priority) or improvements on Hill Street (second priority).

  • The council approved Mayor Terence Wheeler's emergency purchase orders to hire professional services and contractors to complete the repair of Well #1 and replace the water storage tank at the Crestline site.

  • The council also approved the city's purchase of two right-of-way parcels for $1 a piece.
