In partnership with the City of Globe and Salvation Army, local nonprofit United Fund of Globe-Miami has launched a major fundraising effort to support those impacted by last month’s flood, guaranteeing that 100 percent of proceeds will go directly to local relief and recovery.
As of October 1, more than $513,000 had been raised, with the United Fund pledging $100,000 in matching funds dollar-for-dollar.
“Every dollar we receive for flood relief goes directly to helping local families and businesses – none of it used for administrative costs,” says Susan Guerrero, community outreach manager for the United Fund. “Our donors have really come to appreciate our responsible leadership and stewardship of funds, especially during times like this when transparency matters most.”
Additionally, the organization allows donor designation, meaning donors can choose whether they want funds to go to businesses or residents.
The Salvation Army and Local First Arizona are serving as the United Fund’s intake partners. The Salvation Army is handling relief applications for households, while Local First Arizona will begin processing applications for businesses.
The organization expects to release funds soon. These funds will not be directly handed out to people. Rather, the intake partners will pay invoices on behalf of the residents or businesses.
For instance, if a resident or business has flooring repairs, they will need to save that invoice so that the Salvation Army or Local First, respectively, can pay the invoice using donated funds.
“We’re not distributing cash payments,” Guerrero explains. “This process simply ensures donated funds are used responsibly and reach those who need help most.”
Significant donations have already come in from across the region and beyond, including $20,000 from an anonymous organization in California, $75,000 from Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center, $70,000 from BHP, $50,000 from Freeport-McMoran, $100,000 from United Fund, $25,000 from Wells Fargo, and $15,000 from Washington Federal.
Guerrero encourages those interested in donating to donate directly to United Fund to ensure donations go directly to flood relief in Globe-Miami.
