Catch some bass and win a prize

Weekend Warrior at Roosevelt Lake offers a championship for the average angler

Tournament fishing doesn’t belong solely to the pros, and the Weekend Warrior Bass Series Arizona Region Championship at Roosevelt Lake this weekend is designed to allow beginner or average fisherman to wet a hook and win.

Anglers can fish solo or with a partner at the competition this Saturday and Sunday, but it has taken all season for teams to get to this point, and it will be the two-day cumulative weight that will determine whether they will walk away with the championship purse of approximately $14,750.

According to competition rules, payback is one place for every four entries, and the top two biggest fish. This means that for every four anglers, or teams, one payout spot is created, and payouts go to the top finishers by total weight. There will also be prizes for the two largest individual bass caught during the tournament.

More than 100 teams qualified for the championship by fishing four events in the Arizona Region or three in Arizona and three in the Havasu region with the same partner. If an angler’s partner cannot fish the Roosevelt event, they may partner with another qualified angler whose partner is not fishing.

Qualified teams are listed on the website: https://swctackle.com/ww-arizona-region

Lyle Danuser, organizer from Southwest Custom Tackle Tournaments, which is presented by Anderson Toyota of Lake Havasu City, said the event is designed for non-pro anglers, but there is a strong focus on fair competition without the added pressure of fishing against professional anglers or guides. There is no membership fee, and the entry fee is $240 per team.
