Resolution Copper announced in a press release that Oak Flat, which is sacred to Native American tribes, will remain open to the public and be managed by a company owned by a San Carlos Apache member.
Resolution Copper, which completed a federal land exchange this month, giving it control of the Oak Flat area near Superior, announced that 4Winds Contracting will oversee the Oak Flat Campground's maintenance, facilities and road access. The company is owned by Michael Woodbury, who was born and raised on the San Carlos Reservation.
Resolution Copper also said recreational roads and climbing areas on its private land in the Oak Flat area would remain open for the foreseeable future.
