Gila County Elections have posted the unofficial votes for two local school overrides showing that Miami approved an override by nearly 72 percent of the voters, while in Payson the measure passed with 68 percent of vote.
In a statement issued Wednesday morning, MUSD Superintendent Sherry Dorathy thanked the community for its ongoing support.
"The passing of the override is another way our community shows support for the education of our students," she said. "The district will now be able to continue the programs that give our students educational fundamentals and co-curricular activities to improve academic achievement."
"Thank you for the overwhelming support of the override," Dorathy said.
Miami High School Principal Glen Lineberry echoed Dorathy's comments, also expressing gratitude for continuing support from the community.
"The override revenues permit us to provide the services our students need," Lineberry said.
In Miami, 956 ballots were cast out of a total 3,379 registered voters in the district and in Payson 5,932 ballots were cast out of a total of 13,799 registered voters.
Elsewhere in Arizona:
In Tucson voters elected three-term Councilwoman Regina Romero as mayor, with 56 percent of the vote, while soundly defeating the ballot measure to become Arizona's first sanctuary city after 71.4 percent of voters rejected Prop 205.
