Wonton soup: A Chinese New Year favorite here at home

Posted

Chinese New Year, otherwise known as the Lunar New Year, is a holiday centered around good fortune and luck. Celebrated by roughly a quarter of the world’s population, and aligned with both the lunar and solar cycles, this year, the holiday began on Feb. 17.

Wontons are traditionally served during Chinese New Year celebrations. Symbolizing wealth and good fortune, wontons are folded into many different shapes, including the shape of an ingot.

In 2017, before Chef John Wong opened Bloom in downtown Globe, Globe Miami Times sat down with the local chef to discuss the ins and outs of one of his all-time favorite recipes: wonton soup.

In recognition of Chinese New Year and the Year of the Fire Horse, we are resharing  that story, originally published in the January 2017 issue of Globe Miami Times: Click here.
