A whimsical place has arrived in downtown Globe and it’s sure to spark creativity in residents of all ages. The Whimsy Bar, located on Broad Street, will celebrate its grand opening July 10 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event will feature various craft stations, as well as free crafts for kids.
Despite its name, the Whimsy Bar doesn’t serve drinks. Instead, it offers art and crafting experiences. A craft bar provides patrons with “craft recipes” that includes instructions, sample photos and all the items needed to complete the project. They select their preferred materials, pay for the project and then create at a workspace.
Aubrey Sanders is at the helm of this new endeavor and said she was inspired by the craft groups everywhere she lived.
“I’ve always loved everything arts and crafts,” she said, “My mom was a painter, and she always encouraged us to be artsy.”
Her objective is to bring people together around art and “provide a place where people can pursue creativity,” she said. “There are so many local artists, and some don’t have a connection to each other.”
Paid guest artists will be brought in to teach monthly workshops, with the fee including all materials. The venue will also feature rotating weekly craft bars focused on things like creating friendship bracelets and slime-making, with a typical cost of $12 to $25. Sewing classes are also planned.
“Basically I’m pulling everything I’ve ever wanted to do from my Pinterest board,” Sanders said.
Business hours will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Upcoming events include hat burning, which uses heat to etch decorative designs into hats, and a chaos garment sewing workshop. A schedule is available online.
Artists are encouraged to reach out to Sanders to explore teaching workshops in the future.
