I think every day about what it will take to keep our town and the rest of Gila County strong in the years ahead. One of the biggest pieces is making sure people can get the education and training they need without having to leave our county.
Gila Community College gives our residents that chance. I've seen recent graduates figuring out their next step, parents going back to school, and workers learning new skills so they can move up. Without GCC, many of those doors simply wouldn't be open.
The challenge is that state rules written a long time ago haven't kept up with how much our county and our college have changed. Prop. 425 updates those old limits so they fit the way Gila Community College operates today. It does this without adding a new tax or raising anyone's property tax bill. Instead, it gives the college some breathing room to plan ahead and make full use of the funding it already receives.
When more people have access to education and job training, it shows up in our local economy. Employers have an easier time finding the workers they need, small businesses have a stronger customer base, and our young people can see a future for themselves right here instead of feeling like they have to move away.
From my seat at Miami City Hall, I see how closely our town and our college are connected. When the college is strong, our communities are stronger too. Prop. 425 is a chance for voters to support that connection and invest in Gila County's future.
I'll be voting YES on Prop. 425, and I hope you'll join me.
