Cameron Davis, owner of Payson-based Razor Thin Media, has been named the Arizona Office of Tourism's inaugural Destination Ambassador of the Year for the North Central Region. The award was presented during the Arizona Governor's Conference on Tourism in Tucson this month, marking the first year the regional honor has been given out.
Davis was reportedly caught off guard twice that night. He didn't know about the award beforehand, and he also didn't know that his son and business partner, Chaz Davis, had quietly arranged for family members and Discover Gila County Board members to attend and watch him receive it.
Davis has worked in Arizona tourism and marketing for more than 30 years, including 12 years as Recreation, Tourism & Marketing Director for the Town of Payson before starting Razor Thin Media in 2018. Since then, he's led Discover Gila County – Explore the Wild, a countywide tourism campaign that has picked up recognition from groups including the National Association of Counties and the Arizona Office of Tourism.
In comments after the ceremony, Davis credited the honor to the broader community he's worked with rather than to himself alone, noting that tourism dollars ripple out to small businesses — hotels, restaurants, guides and local attractions — in the towns visitors choose to explore.
