“Old-timers” of Miami will be gathering for this month’s Second Friday event at the Bullion Plaza Cultural Center and Museum. The event is titled “Miami Remembers!” and will be a time to reminisce or learn about the “good ol’ days” of Miami.
Roberto Reveles will be leading this roundtable discussion.
Reveles says he wants to share the history of living in the Miami-Globe area during a very challenging time — the Great Depression.
He attended Bullion Plaza School and had “wonderful motivating teachers that set high expectations for the students.”
He credits much of his career and success to a local town librarian named Ms. Cheves.
“She always challenged me and motivated with a phrase – ‘Dare to dream big dreams,’” he says.
He shares that a particularly important skillset he learned at Miami High School included typing and shorthand, enabling his careers at the U.S. Labor Department, a naval headquarters in Italy, Inspiration Copper Company, and as a congressional staffer for 24 years.
Reveles was born and raised in Miami, and graduated from Miami High School in 1951.
“I’m a primary source of history for that time,” he says. “I feel an obligation to share.”
