The local service club points out that vision problems are common among school-age kids and according to Prevent Blindness America, one in four school-age children have vision problems that, if left un-treated, can affect learning ability, personality and adjustment in school.

They are simply designed to alert parents or the school nurse to the possibility of a problem, which is why the machine offers only two conclusions: Pass or Refer.
The Globe Lions Club hopes to take the new PlusOptix vision screener into the schools this spring where they can help officials and parents identify vision problems which may be affecting a childs' schoolwork.
