GMT was lucky enough to take a ride on the Verde Canyon Railroad last week! Should you find yourself in the Clarkdale area, don't miss one of these excursions! This rail line was first established more than 100 years ago to accommodate copper demands, transporting copper from the mine in Jerome. After the mines closed in the '50s, the line continued to operate, transporting freight, livestock and passengers.
In 1990, the Verde Canyon Railroad was launched as an excursion line on the same track by railroad executive Dave Durbano, offering 20-mile excursions winding through the red rock of the Verde Canyon. It continues to run today, carrying passengers on two of the 10 remaining FP7 locomotives left in North America.
