Forest Service reports Whitlow Fire is 50% contained.

SUPERIOR-  According to the latest from the Tonto National Forest Service, containment lines for the Whitlow Fire in the Hewitt area held throughout the night resulting in no new fire growth.

The Whitlow fire remains at 823 acres and is at 50 percent contained. Currently there are 45 firefighters assigned to the day shift today, including 2 engines, crews, incident command staff and an ambulance provided by Superior Fire. Aircraft are on standby and ready to react to the Whitlow Fire if necessary.

Today, firefighters will continue to focus on completing containment lines and extinguishing hot spots. The fire is burning in grass and brush.  The Whitlow Fire is still under investigation. There are no structures threatened and no evacuations are in place. Please continue to avoid the Hewett Station area as firefighters make progress towards full containment.

While already demobilized, the Queen Valley Fire Department and Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management provided crews and equipment to assist with suppression efforts.
