Oct 15 - As we went to press this week, we were feeling thankful that the severe thunderstorms predicted for our area never quite materialized. And then came Sunday morning, when the skies once again dumped rain on us, turning the creeks into rivers and flooding - for a second time - many of the businesses and homes that had just begun to see real progress after weeks of clean-up efforts following the Sept 26th flood.
We are deeply grateful for the efforts of city and town crews who worked tirelessly to clear drainages, shore up embankments, and move propane tanks out of harm’s way. Our thanks also go out to the volunteers and friends who stepped up to help businesses and homeowners protect their properties before the weekend. I think we can all admit — we have a little PTSD now when it comes to the sound of raindrops.
Our coverage this week focuses on the response and recovery efforts taking place in Globe and Miami. It’s only a snapshot of the massive turnout and extraordinary work that’s been happening throughout our communities — from the canyons to the downtown districts. We’ll continue to report these stories and post updates on our website and Facebook page. Your readership, comments, and encouragement mean the world to us.
Every day brings a new normal to our lives.
For Globe Miami Times, the new normal includes returning to a free paper for the next three months, ensuring it remains accessible to all residents of Globe and Miami. This change allows us to expand distribution, so those who love this community and have followed us through this crisis can continue to track our recovery and regrowth.
Every issue will once again be free to the public, available at high-traffic locations throughout Globe, Miami, the Copper Corridor, and into the east Valley. We will continue to be your go-to source for real community news, offering you a combined print, digital, social and web platform where you can get your news wherever you are, and share it easily with whoever you want.
Together, we’ll keep telling the stories that define us — stories of resilience, recovery, and community.
