Old Dominion Days takes its name from one of the greatest copper mines in Arizona — a mine that dates back to the 1800s and helped put Globe on the map. The four-day event celebrates that heritage while shining a light on the world-class mining operations working today, producing everything from rock to rod.

Arizona Vintage Baseball Tournament — Saturday & Sunday
Tournament tickets: $10 for both days · Kids get in free
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Globe Community Center ball fields
Long before the major leagues, copper mines sponsored their own base ball teams — the Old Dominion Walkers among them. That tradition returns to Globe as teams from across Arizona compete by 1860 rules — no gloves, wood bats, underhand pitching — battling for bragging rights and their name on a 30-inch copper trophy dating back to 1946. Last year, the Mesa Miners edged the Globe Bears in ten innings. This year, it's anyone's game.
The tournament moves to the Globe Community Center this year with teams competing on both upper ball fields. Head to Center Alley for bleacher seating, vendors, a beer garden and a swag tent. Whether you're a die-hard baseball fan or just looking for a great afternoon with the family, this is old-fashioned American baseball at its finest.
NOTE: Sunday is championship day — This is where play gets real and competition fierce for the Capstone Copper Trophy and bragging rights for a year.
Tournament day sees the teams battle for the Capstone Copper Trophy and bragging rights for an entire year. The trophy — underwritten by Capstone Copper — is on display year-round at the newly opened Arizona Baseball History Museum in Mesa. Winning it puts a team's name in Arizona baseball history.
The Mesa Miners are bringing their A-game with a deep roster of experienced players, but the Higley Haymakers have been hungry since they fell just short last season. Come for a game or stay for the whole day — it's old-fashioned baseball fun for the entire family.
SPECIAL: There will be a kids competition event each date at noon suitable for ages 5 to 12. Kids can win a custom smacker bat, kid size! There will also be a competition for local ball players who want to try their hand at 1860s ball, along with cash prizes for those who can hit a homer or catch some grounders.
